Slow Travel, step by step

Some time ago, we learn about the Slow Travel Movement. Core and point of view of this movement is the focus on the way you travel instead of reaching a goal. When you travel as slow as we do, there is more to explore and contacts are more intense so we are qualified to join the movement.

The first day on the box is as if we haven’t been away from it. Aysha and Isabella, and we also, immediately back in routine. The smile on our face is almost embarrassing.

It’s still cold and at night its below zero. No problem, inside the caravan it’s cozy and warm. So are the people where we arrive on our first spot. Still in Hungary and we can actually talk to them in little sentences. András and Agnes invited us in for coffee and when leaving they share their fresh egg’s with us.

Hungary Border

The last miles in Hungary are great. Lovely people and all the help we need. Our second spot is near a cemetery and close to a horse stable. The owner waves us goodbye in the morning with a big sack of oat, two homemade sausages and of course “Palinka”, liquor with 35 percent alcohol. A bit heavy on our stomach but we didn’t dare to say: no.

About 5 miles before the border there is a big traffic delay. There are road workers busy and especially for us they lead us through the traffic on a safe way. This slow travel has his advantages because people are willing to take care.

Tesco

Our last Hungarians florints we spent on a Tesco supermarket. The bridge over the Danube and the Slovakian border 200 meters ahead of us.

It’s getting colder and the first snowflakes are falling, you can’gt see it’s almost spring. I walk besides the caravan because there is a steep hill and a traffic light. Before I know, John has to go and I can’t keep up with him. It’s too dangerous to stop and for the first time we separately pass a border into a new country.

Walking on the big bridge, my face hiding for the snow blizzard, we reach Slovakia! At the end on a quiet spot, John is waiting for me, and also the sun is shining again.

A very special start on this new slow travel journey!
