Beautiful Slovakian Landscape
We travel through the Slovakian landscape and it is breath taking beautiful. After 10 day’s on this new journey, we reach the small Karpaty Mountains. As careful we can we have plan a flat route to make it possible for the horses. Nevertheless, we can’t avoid these mountains to reach Czech. At first, we reach undulating area. The roads are quiet and the horses are doing well. We make proximally 9,3 miles a day instead of the 15,5 miles at our first journey. Aysha and Isabella haven’t pulled the wagon for 6 months and the need the training. We are very proud of them, the will to work is obviously and many times John has to take care not to overtire them, just because they are so eager.
Karpaty Mountains From Trnava till the Karpaty feet at Smolenice, the hills become steeper and the horses are more in need for rest. Especially Aysha, which is a bit smaller and lighter than her daughter Isabella need more recuperation time. Time we have plenty and every opportunity to escape the steep hill we rest. People are stopping, asking questions, we don’t mind to answer. In Smolenice we stay for two day’s to give the horses some more time to rest, also extra oat is given to them. Than our first serious hill is in front of us, from Smolenice to Buková, the height increasing from 692 feet to 1.053 feet in about 3,7 miles. The Slovakian landscape around us, the mountains, the horses doing so well, we can hardly explain the excitement we feel.
Big Lake After Buková is a big lake with signs pointing to an auto camping. It’s out of season but we think there must be a possibility to stay for a couple of nights. It’s very disappointing, the spot we want to stay is not allowed by the account of a District Water Board member, who lives next to the lake. Finding a place at the end of the end can sometimes be stressfully. A good place is the reward of a hard day’s work, for us and for Aysha and Isabella. John is a bit more prudently in his choice, trying not to disturb people. On the other hand, I am the more daredevil type. Just build up the whole lot and let’s see what happens. It’s not hard to imagine there are some arguments about that subject, now and then….
Ups and Downs This time is not different. I detect the spot, big lake whit meadows around it, enough space for a whole village population to recreate, John want to ask permission and the District man said: No. He points to the end of the road where it is possible. John is taking a look while I stay with the horses, my blood warming up already. John can’t find the pointed place. We have to go and with almost an icy silence between us, we harness the horses again. Before we can explode to each other the man comes back, eager to help showing us the right place. Within minutes, the atmosphere is changed from hopeful to icy to a warm relationship again. Up and down like the Slovakian landscape!!
