The Seven Year Hitch, a Family Odyssey

By David Grant

the seven year hitch

The seven year hitch, an amazing book about a trip around the world by a family with three young kids, in a horse drawn caravan.

We had never heard about the seven year hitch book until 1 week ago. Beautiful things can happen after we build this website. We receive emails from all over the world. One of them; Bob from Deerfield NH USA, send us this book, all the way from America to Hungary! Bob a horse driver of his own, has Percheron horses (we have seen pictures, wow!) and building his own caravan. Great!

Thank's

Bob noticed in a email that the way we are traveling, is likely David Grants route in The seven year hitch, and he had a little thought that we might interested in this story!

Are we? Yes. Few later the Hungarian post came buy to bring a little package with the book. Bob, again, thank you! This means a lot to us.

Struggle

There is so much recognizing when we read the book. The way they struggle through rain and cold weather. The people they meet and the hospitality on their way. David and Kate have given their children an education of a lifetime, and they can build on that forever.

David explains his feelings when they are in Yugoslavia when the war breaks out. The silence, flowers and birds they see when they drive, step by step, around the world. The friendly, generosity people but sometimes also dangerous adventures.

I am not even finished yet reading the book and already totally hooked. It's even stranger because we live the same life!

The book (the seven years hitch) we also found on Amazon.com and it's luckily still for sale. Believe me you won't regret reading this book: The seven years hitch, a family odyssey.

The Wagon Travel Handbook

a follow up by David R.Grant (from the seven year hitch)

Have you ever yearned to set off on the journey of a lifetime aboard a horse-drawn wagon, then "The wagon travel handbook" is the book that will turn that dream into a reality. Maybe you’re an armchair traveller who wishes to enjoy a vicarious read and ride? Either way, this book will delight and inform your voyage of discovery.

Practical Information

Grant has filled The Wagon Travel Handbook with all the practical information a first time-wagon traveller will need before setting out, including sections on interior and exterior wagon design, choice of draught animals, veterinary requirements and frontier formalities. Also included are valuable personal accounts gleaned from other modern wagon masters interviewed for this book, including the young couple travelling from Pennsylvania to Patagonia and the family who has spent the last five years slowly discovering the beauties of Europe.

The family pictured on the front-cover, Judith and Andre, are Dutch people. Judith's niece, Mariska, gave us a week hospitality on her farm in the Netherlands. Mariska herself is also a horse traveler, now working hard to build her own horse farm.

Have A Great Story About Equestrian Travel?

In Holland there is an expression: "I hardly dare to ask...., but?"

Yes, we dare to ask you to write a story about your own horse and travels with horses, back riding and horse campings. Please feel free to share Your Story! Like David did with his book: Seven Year Hitch!
