Low lifestyle, back into the past

It’s become clear to us that this low lifestyle of driving with horses can be dangerous. The combination of slow driving, 3 miles an hour together on the same road where cars speed away with 50 miles is frightening.

Examples of this danger we explore everyday. Sometimes we find a hidden road to use, or an old horse track. Most of the time they are forbidden or closed at the end! Only open for bikes.

Turn the key

I remember the days, to step into my car, turn the key and go. When we now “turn the key” we have been busy for one hour, halve! After five hours drive, we reach 15 mile. “Park” the car, take care of the horses, takes another hour. Together it looks very much like work! Lunch we “take” also 90 minutes so we don’t complain!

Lot of smiles

People on the road are very patient and friendly. It’s very rare that people are shouting to us. We bring a lot of smiles on people faces. On regular base, john pulls over to the side to let go a stream of cars. At the back, we have some security signals. To let people now that we have a slow lifestyle with two horses upfront, driving 3 miles an hour.

Mainz-Wiesbaden

When we pass the water junction at Mainz, we go away from the river. Since the river Main streams trough Frankfurt, a million people city, we don't want to come there!

Frankfurt

There is a bridge to pass the river, just a few miles before Frankfurt. Pitifully the bridge belongs to multinational chemist Industry Company Hoegscht. The bridge is closed and we put the car in front of the poles. I head up to the guard.

A young boy, a skinny neck coming up at his shirt, a bit of acne on his chin, about the age of our youngest son, looks at me. No, the road is closed, sorry! My reaction? I assume that something closed can be opened as well!?

There most be manager or something to help us out. A woman arrives. Very friendly she tells about a second bridge. Totally the wrong way another 8 miles to walk. No way! Ten minutes later, we have an escorted trip to the end of the bridge! The surveillance people makes some pictures for the department and of we go again. Back to our low lifestyle.
