Leisure activity: the way we spend our “free-time!”

Our leisure activity can start when we and the horses are settled in for the evening. Most people think this way of life is relaxing and without any obligations. Let me assure you, it is, mostly……..We drive 12 miles a day, trying to stay on a spot for two nights to give the horses rest and us time for some other activities.

Wisdom

My mother, a very wise woman, had some phrase I (try) hang on too:

First, you do what is necessary

Second; the things which are useful to do

Than at last, the pleasant things.

Let’s make some list of the necessary chores (And then I am not talking about collecting the essentials like water and groceries, because that’s part of the all day tasks)

leisure activity

*Doing the laundry. With a small basket and heated water from our Coleman burner and only when there is plenty water in our reach.

*Cleaning the in- and outside of the carriage. The little dog is our number one bringing in mud and grass.

*Repairing a flat bike tire. The orange bike is essential for carrying water, oat and hay, shopping, visiting and sightseeing (after doing the necessary chores, of course!!!!)

*repairing the front carriage brakes. One of the cables is broken. Its unbelievable how many things fall into decay when traveling, the little pieces of wood or paint disappearing, rust and dust on every part and the overhaul maintenance the carriage need.

leisure activity

The useful things we do when its “leisure” time:

*Cleaning the horse harness. Checking buckles, greases the leather and an overhaul safety inspection.

* Checking our bank account. We have some savings but most of our income is from Internet business. Especial John is busy with that. Through his website: Light on ADHD but also through Internet Marketing, selling software and e-Books. John is really an Internet addict so this we call:”combine business with pleasure!”

*Phone calls to relatives, paying bills, planning routes for the next day of week.

Than at last the pleasant leisure activity !

*Number one is sightseeing. Visits to Brno, Prague or stroll along the riverbanks of the Labe.

*A good second activity: reading, reading and more reading. When we started this journey 2 years ago we had more than 500 books on our bookshelf. They all stored away in boxes, only 5 or 6 essential books we brought with us. Books are too heavy to carry and we have search for alternatives.

Again, the Internet is saving us (modern travelers) by providing us with the whole digital world available with one mouse click. (Did I mention we also have a little inkjet printer with us? I hardly dare to tell that)

The challenge is to find valuable content for me. John is happy to read all about self-improvement, mental science, marketing etc. I like to read more novels and fiction and travel info. John has helped me out with this by introducing me to the Public Domain on Internet. Free downloads of books, videos and other free stuff. It’s one of the software “things” he is selling and I must say this time he convinced me. I only use parts of it because it’s mostly for people earning money with Public Domain material. ( the page its a bit “scary”, not my cup of tea but useful to read) Nevertheless, it appeases my reading hunger.

In addition to that: I heard from fellow travelers about the “kindle”, a reader for e-books sold by Amazon. I haven’t tried it because it’s a big investment and not available yet in Europe. Hope to try that one out when its blow over from the US.

Conclusion after writing this page about leisure activity and affirmative to a colleague horse drawn traveler: Living like this, is a 24-hours all time “job!”

leisure activity

Even Vienna has her favourite leisure activity, digging for mousses, hunting birds and than sleep!
