Journey Guidance which lead us in the right direction
About journey guidance and unexpected help. If you believe in it or not, maybe calling it something else, we have felt a certain guidance on our travel. In the middle of our caravan we have a little medal hanging at the sealing: Saint Christopher, protector of all travelers. On a journey like this you can’t avoid any danger. Busy roads, overnight visitors, sometimes, (however rare) hostile habitants in the country’s we pass. We also have to conquer steep downwards hills where Aysha and Isabella need all their strength to hold the wagon. Not always are download hills dangerous, sometimes it’s the opposite.
Let me show you the outline.
In Germany, we travel besides the river Danube. This river is our guideline from the west of Germany to far into Hungary. The surroundings are flat and mostly easy to drive. Everything goes well till we arrive at the city Straubing. This city is build upon a hill and there is only one way to pass it. We have to take that steep hill with the horses and hope for the best. There is already a traffic jam behind us so it’s not that comfortable to drive. John takes a long run-up but it’s not long enough. About 60 feet from the top the horses start to stumble, trying step by step to reach the top hill. At that time both John and I are walking next to the wagon, pushing and spur on the horses. People behind us in the car looking with great interest!
Slipping Backwards It becomes clear the horses can’t make it. It becomes dangerous because the car is slipping backwards. John next to the wagon can’t reach the breaks. Suddenly from the other side of the street a young woman appears. Wearing a little skirt, high heels and a little handbag around her neck and shoulder. Obviously dressed up for an afternoon shopping walk.
She runs to us and start to push. I appreciate the help but I can’t avoid the thought that this won’t help much! She only weight like 100 pound. To our surprise, slowly we take the high steep ultimately reaching the top. Saving us from an accident hitting the cars behind or worse. The horses are worn out, we too and we all have to take a short rest. Parking the caravan as close to houses and parked cars we turn around to thanks this wonderful woman. We can’t find her! I walk into different streets trying to spot her and to thank her for the so obvious needed help.
She did not talk to us, we didn’t either, busy whit pushing and the feeling of enormous danger and afterwards the relieve everything was all right. This woman appeared, did her “thing” and vanished, leaving us wondering. In retrospect, there are more of these encounters. The one above is the most striking one!
