Humor in Life: Life Lessons
At the moment, humor in life is essential after the latest experiences. We have sad moments after John’s wound infection which brings him to the hospital again, however also moments to cherish. We need this sense of humor to survive all the different challenges we meet. John is lying on a four person’s hospital room together with two other males his age, and a demented older woman. Yes, in the Netherlands we have mixed gender on one room. If necessary, they close the curtains for some privacy. If you insist on a male- or female room only, the waiting list is much longer. The demented woman is very demanding (also a bit hilarious behavior) and after giving multiple assistance through the walking patients, they give up and she is moved to a single room. Silence again.
Admirable Solution Moving around in a wheelchair is difficult enough, a supplementary infuse pole makes it even more challenging. John has made a solution by holding the pole (with wheels) between his legs, the wheelchair wheels driven by hand he accomplish a visit outside the hospital on his own. A funny thing to see, but also an admirable solution he has found. I can see again John’s positive attitude in life. Making the best of it. In this month, we have a big European Soccer Event. Holland is doing fine and every match is important. Before, we had an image of traveling with our caravan through Germany, searching for a television or big screen, watching the game. Now in stead we are in the hospital sitting together in front of a big screen, several patients in wheelchairs and hospital beds, excited about the Dutch results. Not exactly the image we had nevertheless we are happy to take part in this event.
Cheer Up John’s positive attitude is no coincidence. Mediation, reading multiple books and a good sense of humor has given him a positive look on life. His website www.light-on-adhd.com is a good example of that. Besides that he is constantly searching for books and articles with positive content like the one beneath this article. I am proud of him. Together we make the best of it. Sometimes we are moody but never in the same time, this way we are able to cheer up each other when necessary! Humor in life: Life Lessons! Thea
