Horse Drawn Vehicle
John gets the chance to train with a sulky, a horse drawn vehicle for one person. (Light open two-wheeled vehicle, pulled by one horse) Together with the famous Sulky racer Alle Loman, they hit the race track.
Close to Nymburk, a municipal worker stops us to have a chat. When he understands we are Dutch he gets excited. In about 9 miles, a Dutch Sulky racer lives there with his wife and kids, his name: Alle Loman. That would be nice meeting him so I start a search on the Internet. It does not take long to understand that Alle is very famous in Czech. As a champion racer and businessman, it isn’t hard to get in contact with him through email. Moreover, yes! We are welcome. Not sulky at all! When arriving on the spot, I see a gentleman in a car, asking if he speaks German. “No, but I do speak Dutch!” is his replay. And immediately after that:”I thought I would get some phone call or email from you, as an announcement?!” oops. We totally forgot and a bit ashamed I make my apologies. Fully accepted and no hard feelings.
Al Ocean Alle, a very handsome and amicably men shows us around his place. We see several horses and also his fabulous horse Al Ocean, a price winning stud, now retired we understand. It’s nice to talk with this charismatic man and before we know it’s evening, Alle, back to his home in Prague, and we off to bed. Aysha and Isabella in the forefront of Alle’s newly-build mansion.
Place from Heaven Next morning, the first one we see is Alle again. He offers us a place for the up coming day’s because he knows we want to see Prague. That’s great but in a few days, our daughter and boyfriend are coming over? Even that is no problem, let them put their tent next to our horse drawn vehicle and enjoy the stay. In addition, that’s exactly what we do. John together with Alle gets the chance to try a Sulky, on Alle’s own race track. The look on John’s face is telling more than words can do..... In return, John helps Alle out with building a new fence at the back of the stables and after that some “heavy duty” on the grass mower. Not to compare with driving a horse drawn vehicle and surely no hard task!
Golden TipsThe help and support Alle is giving us is priceless. As an experienced driver and trainer, he knows his métier. One of his remarkable statements when asking how he succeeds over and over again in races: “I never force a horse, I only helping him to do what I expect.” Another “gold” one: “I never ask if a Czech speaks German or English. They are to shy to answer that. Instead, I speak Dutch to them, waiting for a response in a language of their choice. Within a few minutes, they start talking back with little German or English words. I, than can adjust my own language and we actually have a conversation”. Never to old for a lesson we try that the next morning in a shop, and it works! More golden language tips in this hilarious eBook from Terence.
This ebook is PACKED with travel advice and tips
that will inform and motivate you, all while keeping you laughing. Whether you are a professional traveler, or are just thinking about spending a few weeks in another country, there is something in this book for you. If you plan to learn Spanish, French, German, Japanese or any other language in another country, then you’ll be especially glad that you read this ebook.
Good advice Talking about our horse drawn vehicle trip and possible difficulties ahead he advice to check our horse papers validity. Turns out, we don’t have all the paperwork done. With no hesitation, he arranges a meeting with the right person to help us out. Also talking about our route he advice us to stick with our original idea following the big rivers through Czech. An earlier advice from Petr does not feel good to us, and Alle conforming this we know what to do. In a few weeks, we enter Germany again, our horses facing the challenge of driving through the Ore Mountains (Kružne Hory). Following the Elbe (Labe) is hopefully the best decision.
Gold medal? After a full week, it’s time to say goodbye. The day’s we spent with our kids in Prague went faster away than we wanted, saying goodbye every time harder and harder to do. To Alle we promise to keep in contact. On May 16, he is a competitor for Czech in the World Champions Sulky racing with a chance to win the gold medal in America. We surely keep an eye on that! With our own horse drawn vehicle, we turn to the road again. Fully equipped with stuff from Holland, new health papers, new knowledge, and a new friend and mentally refreshed. (Three young Czech girls, not afraid to handle the big race horses!)
