Horse Drawn Journey through Czech.
Our horse drawn journey through Czech helped us improve our language in more than one way. It's a multi lingual experience because we speak “easily” more than four languages on one day. It’s not only English, German, and a bit of Czech but also Dutch and lots of body language.
Czech blacksmith We are in need for a blacksmith. The horseshoes are fit wrong the last time. The little Widia pins where assembled the wrong place, to far on the front, wearing out the irons to soon. The easiest way of finding a blacksmith is asking other horse owners.
We also want a blacksmith here in Czech because it’s much cheaper. The first horses we see don’t wear irons but a horse owner’s network can be big. In addition, it is! I only need one word: potkovi, I lift up my foot, point to the horses and in no time there is a blacksmith arranged.
Dutch?? Behind me, I hear John talk in Dutch. Dutch!? Can’t be that we in this very small village actually find somebody talking Dutch. However, it’s true. A young couple lives there and the man has worked as soccer player for one year and a half in Holland. They know another Dutch couple owners of a camping nearby. OK, now everything is arranged: blacksmith and a place to stay!
Shady camping in Brozani Nad Ohri The camping is nice and shady under big trees. A small river at the end of the campground and a big meadow where Aysha and Isabella can stand easily multiple days is our place for the night.
It’s warm and the fly’s annoys the horse’s big time. Not an easy task for the blacksmith. John’s biggest nightmare so far: shoeing Isabella finally comes to an end! Till this time, Isabella has been very resistant when working on her hoof. Last time she hits the farrier in a horrible way and almost injured him. This time is totally different. Maybe it’s the quiet behavior of the blacksmith, maybe the new approach John is trying, whispering into Isabella’s ears. She is like an angel and behaving gentle like she never did before. Even when a cloud of smoke from the heated irons spins around her head, she does not move an ear. We fall in love with her all over again….
Horse drawn journey deal! A young woman, watching the blacksmith at work, asks if she can make pictures and publish them on the camping website? That’s no problem and in a few minutes she is back with her camera. For the first time (and in my best English), I give it a try: can we make a deal? "We, a free night and a link on our website to your camping in exchange for the pictures for your website?" And she says: Yes! I can hardly believe it. Something else I learn to do: assertiveness.
Without words Our camping neighbors don’t talk another language than Czech, a few German words and tiny bits of English. However after four hours working on the hoofs, it’s almost 9 o’clock in the evening, they assume we are hungry bringing sausages and bread accomplished with wine to our caravan. We don’t speak Czech but believe me our faces could not more express our feelings of thankfulness.
This whole horse drawn journey through Czech we have met very kind, gentle and friendly people, helping us where ever they can. Sometimes without any word, just hand and feet communication we are able to receive and give each other something to remember. In a few days, we enter east-Germany. Communication there is easier to us because of their language almost identical ours. This land Czech Republic is beautiful and we surely will come back.Maybe on a horse drawn journey maybe on another way, but come back we do! Thea
