Horse Carriage Driving

Practice

We have to practice horse carriage driving . To get on with familiar terms with our team we put a lot of effort in training them, and ourselves. Finding a good place where we have the space to work with them and find a good trainer, took some time.

Replacing

After three months we placed them to a meadow in a nature reserve near Goirle ( a small Dutch village in the South of Holland), John was working here – with a lot of fun and enthusiasm – as an activity supervisor on a “care farm.” (This is a farm where people with “integration problems” work because of disease, handicaps or minor criminal activities to help their integration with society).

John enjoyed working those beautiful animals , as well as the participants. Taking care, stroking, and working with them bring many moments of joy. Thea joins regularly and gets more and more involved in the contact. We bought a, one-horse carriage, mainly for the participants to restore on the farm. Eventually professional carriage builders finish the job and are we able, after buying the necessities, to ride with it.

Wagoner

Aysha is the lucky one. We made many miles with her around the borders between Goirle (NL) and Aerle (B.)In the mean time John started with the training for Wagoner, the choice for the school isn’t a lucky one.

Some incidents occurred that made us insecure. The climax is that John had to ride with other candidates during the exam with an unfamiliar team. Many thanks to the owner of this fine Haflinger for lending it to us. The examiner couldn’t let John pass because he was, according to his evaluation, too insecure.

Luckily, we are convinced of our capacities and eventually we decided that we’d ride with two horses and a wagon towards the Black Sea.

In July 2006 Aysha and Isabella were replacing again towards a meadow in Baarle-Nassau (NL) at breed stables “De Heimolen.” The owner of the stable is so kind to explain the basics of traveling with our couple, and rides along with us to help.

Groom

After several rides with him, John was prepared to try it himself. Thea as a groom without hesitation. That’s how we make many practice rounds in around the area of Baarle-Nassau. In the mean time, we enjoy riding and the nature around us, and of course, the necessary rest.

In the mean time, the horses have gained many pounds. From the start we have always tried to keep them busy, meaning: keep them outdoors as much as possible, day and night, summer and winter. Not giving them too much pellets but hay and grass. Horse carriage driving with this two ladies is really nothing to compare with!

We want to share a book with you, which is helpfull,

Better every Time

Of course we use Isabella as well for, horse carriage driving, and here it becomes clear what I told before: once we’re off she’ll come along but before we set her up in the pair, and I give the commando to leave, we go through a great deal of trouble. Every time we go through this ritual, but it’s getting better every time.
