Great Journey
After this great journey, we need some warm family meetings. We did write about this journey but telling them in personal it's much more fun. We plan a trip home. That sound easier then it is, it's a long long journey back home. We need a place to stable the horses, somebody to take care of house and garden, keep an eye on the caravan and much more. We look forward to see the children. Two of them have visited us during the trip and that’s wonderful but we want more! The time we lived in their neighborhood, we visit every two weeks family for a cup of coffee and some chatter. We miss this and them more than we thought before we start this ultimate journey.
About five miles down the village into the direction of Zirc, we find a riding school whose offers us a place for the Haflingers. Big meadows around it, (with no grass) but enough space for the two travel horse ladies for a good run. It’s freezing cold when we harness the horses, our fingers falling off and our buts frozen to the box. After three miles Aysha lost her shoe, so that’s another task we have to do when we are back. The irons are still well but the nails growing out after three months on this great journey, and the hoofs are too long now.
Blacksmith At the boarding stable, we ask for a blacksmith. The owner has no idea where to find one! Strange thing for a horse owner and we are not satisfied with the idea of leaving the horses here on second thoughts. Nevertheless, we need a place and we hope for the best. The groom will try to find a blacksmith and if it’s possible to remove the shoes. Our landlord takes care of the house and we give him our journey information in case of troubles. Now and then, he will burn up the heating because it’s still freezing day and night. To avoid moisture from the gas heating he also twice a week airs the room. Never thought about that but we learn every day, so to say.
The kids! In Holland, we have some good quality time with the kids. Eating and talking for hours around a table in the little student room of our son. We only take time for kids and family, friends have to wait till later. Now it’s more important to speak with our closest relatives, about this daring journey and talk we do, deep into the night! (Journey quote: We almost become the journey! After seven months travel of this great journey, already things have changed in the Netherlands. New television programs, talking about people we never heard off. We have to say our interest of keep up with it, is low!
Back “home”. The landlord has clean the house. Carpets are fresh and some minor repairs have done. They also removed the curtains and especially the ones in the sleeping room we miss! The gas heating is blowing and it feels immediately as home again. Next day we rush back for a new journey to the horses. Together they stay in a stable and not as we wanted and ask for outside. Hummm. It’s the second time we leave them behind on this great travel but if it’s up to us (and it is); we don’t do that again for a third time. It has been very nice to be in Holland for two weeks but it’s good to be back after this great journey!
The hurdle is together again after a great journey, back to hospitality
