Good People
Slovakians are good people to meet. When they see us traveling with our horse drawn caravan they are enthusiastic and spontaneous. Nowadays every one has a camera on their mobile phone and let’s puts it this way; no one is reserved using it! From the back of their car, standing out on a crossing, people make photos and waving at us. Sometimes I don’t know where to look or to react.
This first week in Slovakia, we look for good places with plenty of grass to feed the horses. There are spots enough and we haven’t any problem finding a place to stay. It always surprises us how be very hospitable unknown people are to us. They don’t know us, but yet offering food and water to the horses and grocery to us. It strikes us that usually people with less to share are sharing everything they can. In advance we try to give something back, sometimes horse riding for the children, a picture when they sit on the box, a drink ore a small talk as good as we can.
Hold Up On our fifth day in Slovakia, when we cross a small city, a man is trying to stop us. Walking next to the caravan, he waves with one of our postcards we give away. We don’t recognize him but after a bit of “hand and feet” talking we understand he is a relative of an older woman we met, the day before. She provided us with hay when we are in need for that. The postcard the man waving with was hers and he was proud of it.
Karpaty Mountains In Slovenice, a small village at the feet of the Karpaty Mountains, the welcome is very special. Within minutes, we are surrounded with good people, and in no time, we have whine, oats, electricity and water, coffee and lots of conversation in three languages. Man, woman and children are very interested and full with questions about our journey. We are more than willing to answer them, it’s a feeling as if we are home talking to friends.
Good job The horses have done a good job these past days. The surroundings are more steeper with big mountains ahead of us to conquer. We planning to stay here for some days and again there is no problem. Josef and Lydia, an older couple, living close to our spot, helping us with our laundry. Meeting people like them is 90 percent of the travel fun. Indeed good people in Slovakia and nice to travel so far.
