Funny things we Dream

The funny things we dream are no reflection of the terrible first day we have on our journey.After months of preparing, we sure everything is ready. It’s not.

We live in the caravan for months now waiting till it’s time to go. The house is sold, books stored away, the horses are ready. Difficult decision to go or not go is the illness of John‘s father. Seven years ago, he had a stroke and he is half the man he was before. Now he passed away after a long illness. A sad time for all of us and for a while, we can’t think of leaving anyway.

Then when its time to live further we decide to plan a date, and leave the place where we have stay till then. In an easy way, first driving through the Netherlands where we still can visit our children and John’s mother. Only when we pass the border we will make a farewell party. Our dream travel can start now, we can fulfill the dream.

Key moment

It starts all bad , (like we say, not at all the funny things we dream!)the moment we want to leave. We can’t find the key’s from our little caravan. This caravan with all our worldly belongings can’t be closed anymore because the keys are gone. For the next 30 minutes we search and search, finally find them on a place I did not place them!

People also staying on this beautiful spot are waving and saying goodbye. We don’t pay much attention to them, that eager to go and drive. It’s a shame and again sorry! Especially it’s a very nice place with unique people who lives in Yurt’s. Pictures of such yurts

With blushes on our face, still not on speaking terms because of the key’s we lost, we drive away into the little village Baarle-Nassau. It’s a very touristy place with loads of people on the street. This is the first time I realize people watching us, keep watching us and still am watching us.

No Mirror to see

First challenge to take is a busy street with cars parked sideways, other cars piling up eager to pass us. We hit an iron pole and a little door attached to the caravan to refill the water completely brakes off. It’s my fault. I could not find the right mirrors, deciding not to use one, or do it later. Wrong decision: always use mirrors!

After the door is broke, the ice is broken too! I restrain myself not talking to loud, we travel our first miles while steam is coming out of John’s ears.

The funny things we dream about this trip are far away.

Nevertheless, when John finally is calm down…….we actually drive ”along God’s roads”, laughing and talking, happy as ever!

There is one thing we need to do. A last book we have to bring back to a friend. He lives near the road we taking so it’s no problem. Something we did not foresee is the man lives in a wood. The road to it full with humps and potholes. The caravan is dancing on the road, pots and pans we can hear fall off, down the shelves. Something more worries us; the pole where the horses are attached to is bouncing up to their noses! Really scary for them and us!

Clothing Mess

Another nightmare and not a dream travel at all. When we arrive at our first spot to stay, the caravan is heavily damaged. It’s a clothing mess, books and pans all over the place. The box underneath is totally broken, the little door we have to fix, and the horses are worn out!

That’s the ends of our first day, the funny things we have dreamed far away! Nevertheless, together we are cozy sitting in the caravan, with a beer and whine, saying what a wonderful life we have and back to the more funny things we dream about.
