Czech Republic
Our seventh country is Czech Republic, country of Marina Navratilova and Václav Havel, writer/politician. We did just a small part of Slovakia and we went through it in 3 weeks. The last evening in Slovakia is a special one. We find a big spot in the small village Kúty. We could not find any owner or neighbor so we took the chance.
Slovakian people are a bit reserved, we believe, but this time was really a surprise. Within 10 minutes we where surrounded with 10 children and several parents. One particularly family asked if we want coffee and the woman went home to make two cup’s instant coffee. Fifteen minutes later, her husband came back with a big sack of hay. The children eager to practice their English and German, asking dozen questions, even we couldn’t come up with all the answers. We refused to let them ride because Aysha and Isabella are tired and lying down in the field. That is no problem; instead of riding we have an entertaining conversation till sundown.
Sewing time Next morning I have to repair our down-blanket, it appears to have a hole, when shaking it up there are more feathers in my hair than in the blanket itself. There is no way I can do the repair inside the carriage, so the next minute I am sewing the blanket in the open air with a bunch of kids staring at me.
One hour later the owner arrives on the spot. A very gentle man of little words, explaining he is a breeder of the Slovakian horse. No problem we stay on his grassland, on the contrary, he comes back with 45 pond oats in the back of his car and a little knucklebone for the dog. The “welcome” committee, the coffee, oat and bone, we all receive it with great thankfulness. We are never afraid running serious short of anything, when we need something, somehow it comes on our path. No man’s land Today we pass the border Slovakia to Czech Republic. The road isn’t interesting, a long part no man’s land, intersect by the Morava River. Passing the border is always an exciting moment, we make shore to have a picture of that. Last time that didn’t work out when passing the Slovakia-Hungarian border because of the snow blizzard. Now we make the time to make a picture from both country signs.
Closed for season In Břeclav we find an auto camping, close to shopping centre and at the feet of a castle!. It’s not open yet for season but the owner opens it for us. Benefit of staying at a camping is the possibility to leave the whole carriage and horses, and do some shopping and sight seeing. Our first day in Czech Republic. One of many to come! Thea
