Budapest Hungary hill city along the Danube
Budapest Hungary with approximately 17 million inhabitants. Here in this city we finally see the Danube again. Our plan to drive through this capital-city with our horse drawn caravan is not gone happen. It’s to busy. We start sight seeing by trolley and buses. The Danube streams to its center from North to South. The eastern site with the old city Pest, on the west bank Boeda and Oboeda together forming Budapest. It’s Valentine’s Day and also my birthday, the rose John is buying me, is welcome. I miss my kids more then ever.
Dangerous There are most beautiful build houses on top of the high city hills. Most rewarding to see is the Mátyás church on the west bank. High upon the hill you can reach it by either a trolley, by foot or a bus. The renovation of this church is in full process. We watch the builders, laying new roof slates in multiple colors in a breathtaking mosaic. The builder, his hand full with slates, slowly shuffles his feet, and holding himself with one hand! Wow. He attached himself with a rope but even then it’s seems very dangerous.
Citadel In addition, the liberty statue on the west bank is worth a visit. We took a trolley (nr 61) and a bus (27) to the citadel. Just outsight the citadel there is a 45 feet high statue. A woman with a palm leave in her arms high up in the sky, her bronze dress blowing in the wind. Performing the end of one political culture to the other one in Budapest Hungary: communism. Of course, we pictured John in front of her.
Budapest Hungary and of course the Danube The view from this point is great. The meandering Danube, the old city Pest on the other side almost hidden in mist. Few months ago, we swim in the Danube and it’s unbelievable we are now here, together! Walking from this hill is easy. A long path, a bit steep down brings us to the next statue. We can’t see it quiet well but the little stone face on the pedestal is worth to take a picture.

Budapest Hungary, uphill
Culture? Down hill, we are puzzled where to go next, restaurants and nightclubs or shopping? We decide to see some culture. We want to see more of the old city but we can’t find the way to it. Then we realize it’s on top of the highest hill. About an hour later we arrive there, steaming and gasping, but again it worth the trip uphill. It’s a pity most of the museums are closed from November till March. No problem, following a Burger King sign we totally satisfied with an ice-cream, enough culture.
Sissy Budapest is, in a way, similar to Vienna, Paris and perhaps London. The difference is the feeling you get here. Knowing their political history so different from the city’s mentioned before. Like in Vienna we walk more than we visit, we take a trolley to see as much as possible from this area. The six bridges are beautiful and it’s not difficult to imagine Queen Elisabeth (sissy) living in this amazing city. Budapest Hungary, a hill city, worth to visit for more days’ then we have done!
