We found an Antique Carriage!
We found an antique carriage! Now we stay here for the winter we want Aysha and Isabella to keep in shape. Before, they walked for 7 months an average of 15 miles a day pulling a draft horse carriage. To stand still suddenly is not good for their condition and we can see their muscles slim down. In the garden, the manure is piling up so the combination is easily made. We let them bring their own “apples” to anybody who wants it for their vegetable gardens. We don’t have haflinger saddles and no intention to buy them, horse riding is not our expertise.
Therefore, we search for a horse carriage for sale. In a nearby village, there is one for sale, but they asking too much. The minute they knew, you are a foreigner the price is doubled or even tripled the amount. In the neighborhood we only have seen very old horse carriages, and nevetheless anowique is OK it must be functional. Sidebar: the rental price we pay for the little house is cheap for us, but now we know we pay twice as much as native Hungarians!
Finally, we find a horse carriage for sale. We call it a flat horse drawn carriage and it’s in a reasonable state. The wheels a bit slum but good enough. The pole just a big shrunk of wood attached with a big screw to the carriage. The owner has a special way to bring the horse carriage over: just put it up another car and brings it to us! We use our own carriage harness which is perfect. ImreThe first trip we make with this antique wagon is to an elderly man who was our host the last time we went on the road: Imre. This man is a retired customs men worked before at the Austria / Hungarian border and speaks German very well.
With Imre, we can talk about Hungarian politics and economics. He has a nice way to express himself. When we compliment him with his German, he said: I did not use it for many years but it was sleeping inside me, waiting to wake up again when necessary! Isn’t that wonderful?
Imre is divorced and lives together with his old mother; already in her ninety’s but still taking care of her household. Cleaning carpets with a broom no vacuum cleaner to find! Customs We also learn some Hungarian customs. A man never gives a woman a hand until she selves gives it. People leaving from your house you accompany them till your fences, not only to your door! It’s nice talking to Imre; the only nasty thing is he can’t remember the conversation next day because he drinks too much! Nevertheless, with a nice feeling we step on the antique carriage box again and went home.
