Accident

Our worst nightmare has happen.

This afternoon we had a major accident. John is in the hospital with a double fracture on his ankle. Waiting for an operation in the morning.

Aysha and Isabella are all right. Vienna too. The caravan is total loss.

We turned from a high hill to go down again when the brakes failed.

I jumped from the caravan desperate to get a chock in front of the wheel. It didn’t work.

Then John tried to stop the caravan by steering in front of a house. That didn’t help either, worse John felt of the box, was dragged on the street the reins still in his hand. Than the whole caravan drove over his ankle. The horses run into a lamppost right in the middle. Both horse harnesses even the leather horse-collar snapped, Aysha and Isabella running away.

It was immediately clear that John has broken his ankle and could not do anything. People on the street and later on the police have take care of Aysha and Isabella. Vienna was still sitting on the bed in the van.

John needs an operation after the accident. We can’t think further than tomorrow.

Vanmiddag rond een uur of drie is het ongeluk gebeurd. We waren een heuvel opgegaan maar moesten toch terug. We gingen net naar beneden toen de remmen het niet meer deden.

Ik ben eraf gesprongen om een blok voor de wielen te gooien maar het ging al te hard. John stuurde tegen een hek aan van een winkel maar het hielp niet.Hij is er toen vanaf gevallen en een eind meegesleurd aan de teugels die hij vast bleef houden. De wagen is over zijn enkel gereden.

De paarden zijn toen precies met het midden van de wagen tegen een lantarenpaal gereden. Het tuig van de paarden is helemaal gebroken waardoor ze weg konden rennen. Mensen op straat hebben de paarden opgevangen en later de politie.

John is in het ziekenhuis met een enkel die op twee plaatsen gebroken is. Morgen wordt hij geopereerd. De paarden staan op een manege en Vienna is daar ook. Ik zit in een hotel.

Morgen weten we meer.
