After a short break in the country, we start fantasizing about our plans in the nearby future. What we want to do in say five years? Were to work, were to BE? At that moment, both of us worked hard as professionals in social work. Thea with young dropouts and John working with psychiatric people. John also had a coaching practice. We lived in Breda in a middle-class owner-occupied property. Our children left home for study and jobs, doing well on their own. Working There was a lot of working going on and the prospects were looking good, in the eyes of the public at large but… for ourselves traveller blood warmed up. Why work to pay for a car that you need for your work to pay the mortgage etc.? Is there no other way of living? More variation, independence, less hurry and arranging? What do we REALLY need? What else do we want in life?We want more with less. More rest, satisfaction with less stress for example. Living your dream the fullest. First, we looked in Ireland for a place where we could live and work, further away from the busy life in Holland. Living your dream in Holland is very expensive. We had the plan to settle here, life in the country, working with horses. Ireland is actually one of the most expensive countries to live in within Europe. Therefore, that wasn’t quite it. 
Living your dream Somewhere along the line, we came up with the idea of applying our thoughts on the mainland. In a special way: resign from our jobs, cancel the practice. Buy two horses and a wagon. Many people asking us how we collect money to do what we are doing. On the start of our journey, we used savings from the selling of our house. However, it’s strange to live from savings, knowing it will only become less not more. I remember the first day after my last salary check I received. At the supermarket, I only bought half the necessary things just because I was suddenly aware of the money. Original thoughts: We have a two year travel budget. At the end, we still want to have some credits to start all over again, living maybe in a house. When that moment comes, we need to buy new furniture because we sold everything. Also for the first weeks, we need to buy grocery before we find a job again. How naïve…….!
